Long Live the Photobooth
One of our quirky family traditions which makes our family-our family-is that once a year we take a family photo in a photobooth. I like to do this for a number of reasons. First, I don’t have to be the photographer, which feels like work. The yearly tradition makes it an event. It can be spontaneous, anytime you spot a booth during the year. It’s cheap. And lastly, I like the simplicity and continuity of the images photobooths produce. For me it has to be a traditional black and white, dragged-through-the-chemicals, wait-two-and-a-half-minutes kind of booth. Sometimes I’ll go for color if I’m feeling sassy, but I personally eschew the new digital ones. They just don’t feel like a real photograph to me.
Of course each year more of the traditional photobooths disappear, which might eventually make this tradition a very challenging proposition indeed. The world wide web to the rescue!
